The Greeks are known to have cultural values in their stories. These values are taught to their own and to the ones interested in the values that the Greeks teach and learn. In the Odyssey the most important values are taught in The Lotus Eaters, The Sirens and The Cyclops. These values can really teach us something about life. That is why these stories are great not only to read but also to learn about.
The story closely related to my life is The Lotus Eaters. It relates to my life because I have seen how addictions make people forget their dreams. In the Lotus Eaters Odysseus's men eat Lotus and forget about returning home. This story shows how peopls sometimes fall for that dreamland happiness which makes them forget about real life. Which means we need to overcome temptations in order to succeed in life.
A value that is important is the one shown in the Sirens. Beauty can be decieving. In the Sirens, the beautiful song of the Sirens kills men. Just like a handsome man could be a murder or a beautiful woman be a thief. In life what could be beautiful in eyes could be heartless and black on the inside.
Boasting can come back at you is a value that should always be considered in life. Boasting is just a stupid action action made by stupid people because in this world we are all the same: People in the world living life. In the Cyclops, Odysseus boasts to Polyphemus about blinding him, which leads to Odysseus getting punished by Poseidon who makes Odysseus's journey longer. It funny when a well-put togther person boasts about their success to someone having troubles and then in a few years that person is where that someone was. Well that's how life plays out one minute your on top and the next you are down in the rocks.
Values are a good thing to have. They can help us be a better person. They may even help us treat people better than what we do. There are many values to follow and learn about in life. The thing is that values help us understand noy only ourselves but also the people around us.
